Overview


The Risk Heatmap provides a graphical display of the risks impacting your organization. It is fully customizable and can be filtered to display any type of riskOne of the primary purposes for a risk heatmap is so users can visualize the ranking of risk objects in relation to each other.

Risk heatmaps are especially valuable for executive-level customers, as they can be used by decision makers to identify areas of the business where additional resources may be necessary.

Accessing the Risk Heatmap

Overview

Each cube in the grid displays the number of risks associated with the risk value the cube represents.

The size of the Heatmap changes depending on the chosen vectors and their threshold ranges. 

Number of Ranges = Number of Boxes

To access the Risk Heatmap, complete the following:

  1. Click Dashboard | Risk Heatmap.

  2. The Risk Heatmap home page displays.

Filtering the Heatmap View


The Risk Heatmap can be filtered to show risks associated with an individual selection. heatmap displays a color-coded matrix that is configured on the Heatmap Settings page. Please see Setting up the Risk HeatmapWhen a risk is identified and scored, it adds to the numerical value in the associated grid. 

Several drop downs allow users to narrow results displayed and are explained in the next sections. If you select options in more than one filter, the heatmap takes them all into account and only displays results matching all selections.

Therefore, deselect some of the filter items if you're having issues locating a risk.

Filter by Risk Score

To filter the heatmap by risk score, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Type dropdown boxthe Select Risk Score section, select an option .

    To further refine the results, select an object in the Object dropdown. The page displays with the number of risks populating each cube.

    The highest-rated risk cube for the filter selections is highlighted with its risks displayed to the right as links for easy accessin the list. These selections are transferred from the setup in the Settings | Risk Settings | Scores tab and may be customized for your organization.

Filter by Mapped Object or Status

To filter the heatmap by mapped object, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Filter Risks by Mapped Object section, select an option in the first dropdown. The options only include objects that have a mapping to a risk.

    For example, in the below screenshot, the only objects that have mappings are controls, issues, policies, programs, tasks and vendors. You may have more or fewer depending on the maturity of your program.

  2. Once a selection is made, the page refreshes with the number of risk items populating each cube.
  3. You can further refine results by clicking the next dropdown box and selecting a specific item to review its risk rating.

  4. If there are more than one risk attached to the option selected, they will all display in the heatmap.

  5. To view the risks associated with any cube in the quadrant, click the cube.Image Removed
  6. The page refreshes with the selected cube highlighted and its risks displayed at page bottom or to the right of the matrix depending on your resolution.

  7. Click a risk in the Title column to open the Risk Details page.
Finding

Filtering Risks by

Risk Category

Status

To find risks according to the risk category in which they fallfilter the heatmap by status, complete the following steps:

On the Risk Heatmap page, find the risk category on the grid.

In the screenshot below, the mouse is hovering over the category that ranks Moderate for the Impact and Low for the Likelihood.

Click the category. The page refreshes with linked risks in that category displaying in the right-hand column.
  • Click a risk to open the Risk Details page.

    To edit a risk accessed from the Risk Heatmap home page, complete the following steps:

    1. Click a linked risk.

      The Risk Details page displays.In the Filter Risks by Status section, select an option in the drop-down. The options include statuses currently assigned to risks; For example, in the below screenshot, the statuses currently being used in this application are: Accepted, Assessed, Draft, Identified, In remediation, Transferred, and Under assessment. *Note: The default filter is ALL, please be sure to adjust the status filter to only see specific Risks by Status.

    The number of boxes in the heatmap grid and all calculations are determined by selections in the X-Axis and Y-Axis drop downs. These are created on the Risk Settings page in the Scores tab using calculations of factors, vectors, and even other scores.

    Using the Threshold Slider

    Directly above the heatmap, the threshold slider can be manipulated to provide a quick view into how risk objects fit into different ranges. Each area bubble, with the exception of the one at far right, can be moved to temporarily recalculate scores.

    For example, the bubble between the risk calculation of High and Very High can be moved to see at what point those rated High would be designated as Very High.

    The result shows when those calculated as a High risk are pushed into the next level.

    Printing the Heatmap (Available from October 20th, 2020)


    To print out the heatmap, click the "Print" icon on the top-right of the page.

    Flipping the Order of the Heatmap Vectors (Available from October 20th, 2020)


    To revert the order of the heatmap boxes, click the icon above the heatmap. By doing this, the order of the 2 vectors' ranges will be reversed, so the highest risk score will be positioned on the bottom-left of the heatmap.

    Selecting and Deselecting All Heatmap Boxes (Available from October 20th, 2020)


    To quickly select or deselect all of the heatmap boxes, click the icon with the boxes above the heatmap.
